10 Things to Shift in Your Job Search

Instead of that, try this...

I’m feeling the vibes on socials that you’re fed up, so we’re skipping the small talk today.

Grab your coffee, matcha, lemon water - whatever gets you going - and let’s dive in.

Instead of…

  1. Re-crafting your résumé for every job description to match the skill sets, make sure your skill sets truly align with the role you’re applying for.

  2. Assuming that recruiters are seeing your résumé, assume that they’re not. Reach out before and after you apply for each role. Find the hiring teams on LinkedIn, or find their emails. Here are some contact scraper services I’ve used: Apollo.io, Wiza, Clay

  3. Applying to hundreds of jobs, build a strategy around your goals and desires in your next role, and knock down some doors.

  4. Paying someone to create a resume for you, use ChatGPT to help you craft your resume. Here’s a free guide.

  5. Panicking about preparing for questions like “if you had a warning label, what would it say?”, prepare this way:

Companies hire to attributes, not questions. Every question they ask maps to 1+ attribute.

Link to the full guide at the bottom of this newsletter.

  6. Getting angry and frustrated about getting ghosted, hold interviewers accountable. Close every single interviewer and get a follow up interview or follow up date confirmed. The more accountable you hold them, the less likely they’ll be to not show up.

    • Recruiters: next steps?

    • Hiring Manager: any concerns?

    • Peer: do I have your support?

  7. Hitting Easy Apply, amp up your LinkedIn profile. Don’t know where to start? Check out my LinkedIn Audit service at the bottom of this post.

  8. Reaching out to recruiters, reach out to the decision makers for the role you’re applying for.

  9. Submitting your resume and waiting for a response, go bold. Create a video introduction, and embed it into your resume. Watch this video to see how I created mine.

  10. Scrolling through LinkedIn, use LinkedIn only for a set purpose at scheduled times during the day. It’s mentally exhausting to scroll through your feed, especially when you’re on the job hunt or unhappy in your current role.

That’s all for this week.
