Strategic Tips for Getting Noticed by Hiring Teams

Are you getting ghosted? Or even getting a response to your application at all?
Stop applying to jobs on LinkedIn.
Companies are posting jobs for a variety of reasons right now - the majority of roles posted today are not real.
They’re being posted for reasons that are NOT indicative of growth, but rather, to draw attention or access data.
To gain followers.
Did you know that when you apply for a job on LinkedIn you’re automatically checking a box to follow that company?
To access data that they wouldn’t normally have - your contact information
Take a moment to let that sink in, and keep reading…
The process of applying for jobs, especially when it is your full-time job to find one is mentally and emotionally exhausting.
Applying to 100’s of jobs over the course of days.
Each application requires research and selling yourself.
Just applying to jobs in this market is not the answer.
In order to get ahead and land a role in today’s job landscape, you need to think and execute like a sales rep.
Approach your job hunt the same way a top performing sales rep approaches their territory.
Here’s how:
Target, Track, Reach Out, Follow Up, Build Trust
Target your ideal companies
Research
Identify WHERE jobs are posted
Find the hiring team
Reach out directly
Ask for Referrals
Coming from over a decade of experience sitting on the other side, as a recruiter running 15-40 roles at a time, I can tell you that the active roles that are real are getting 100’s of applicants each.
On each career site.
Every career site (LinkedIn, Indeed, etc) filter into one applicant tracking system (ATS).
That’s 1000’s of applicants per role.
Think about one recruiter managing just 10 of those - that’s 1,000 resumes to go through, at minimum.
In addition to screening, sourcing, and managing interview processes.
LinkedIn is a great platform for networking, learning and building trust.
Do yourself a favor and operate more strategically.
Don’t let LinkedIn be the only place you apply for roles, and don’t ONLY apply.
It’s much more satisfying when you take back a little bit of control in your job search versus over-applying and hoping that someone will respond.
Keep me posted on how this works out for you, and stay positive!
Do things that no one else is doing, and you will stand out.
That’s all for this week.
Happy Hunting!
